196. At this point of history in imperial politics there arose two axial points on the global ellipse of geopolitics, one in West Asia and the other in East Asia. In West Asia, the pivotal point is Palestine, which was dismantled in forging the modern state of Israel; in East Asia it is the Korean peninsula that was divided. These moves made the two regions “permanent” theatres of war for the imperial powers. Since then the struggle for geopolitical hegemony in East Asia has not changed fundamentally, among the four big powers: United States, China, Russia, and Japan. Meanwhile, in West Asia, a competition for hegemony has emerged between the United States, Europe, and Russia. Militarily, West Asia is in a very unstable situation due to the Zionist politics of Israel. Mark Braverman’s perceptive article in this volume astutely analyzes how Christian theology that developed in the West after the Holocaust replaced one supersessionism with another whereby Israel is freely allowed to oppress the Palestinians. One can easily discern the Zoegraphy of the Palestinian people in the context of the Thanatography of Palestine perpetuated by an oppressive Christian–Jewish lobby in the West.
